This is the name that indicates the lands around Ancona, capital of the Marche. The production area is restricted, and is limited to the Mount Conero district, the only promontory on Italy's Adriatic coast between Trieste and the Gargano.
Unique environmental conditions, featuring perfect exposure to light and sea breezes, together with the mainly lime and clay-based, low fertility soils, mean that the grapes are only able to mature fully when each vine carries a limited number of bunches.
